Marketing Software Review (“MSR,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent editorial website that helps small-business owners, solopreneurs, independent professionals, coaches, marketers, and operators evaluate marketing software.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit marketing-software-review.com, use the Marketing Software Advisor, submit a form, interact with our content, or follow a link to another website.
Information We Collect
Website and device information
When you visit the site, our website, hosting, analytics, performance, and security services may automatically process information such as:
- your IP address and approximate geographic area,
- browser, device, operating system, and language information,
- pages viewed, referring pages, visit duration, and interactions,
- timestamps, error information, and security events,
- cookies, local-storage identifiers, and similar technical identifiers.
We use this information to operate and secure the site, understand how readers use our content, diagnose technical problems, and improve performance and usability.
Marketing Software Advisor
On pages where the Marketing Software Advisor or its tracking functions are available, the site may create a random visitor identifier in your browser’s local storage and visit or quiz identifiers in session storage.
If you use the Advisor, we may process:
- your selected goals and business profile,
- your software budget range,
- your preferred level of complexity,
- your priorities, required features, and preferred features,
- the tool you may be switching from,
- the source page or article that led you to the Advisor,
- campaign attribution information contained in the URL,
- quiz steps, completion time, recommendations, scores, result adjustments, and link interactions.
The Advisor does not require your name, email address, or payment information. Its identifiers are intended to be pseudonymous, but they may still be treated as personal information under applicable privacy laws when combined with other technical information.
We use Advisor information to generate software recommendations, explain relevant trade-offs, measure whether the tool is useful, detect errors, and improve future recommendations.
Automated recommendations
The Advisor automatically ranks software based on the answers you provide and the product information available in our system. These recommendations are informational and do not make legal, employment, credit, health, or similarly significant decisions about you.
You remain responsible for deciding whether to use, purchase, or rely on any recommended product. You may contact us if you would like an explanation or review of an Advisor recommendation.
Contact forms and email
If you contact us through our contact form or by email, we may collect your first and last name, email address, subject, message, and any other information you voluntarily provide.
Form submissions may also include technical metadata, such as the submission time, IP address, browser information, or referring page, when used for security, spam prevention, or troubleshooting.
We use this information to respond to your request, manage editorial or partnership inquiries, investigate problems, and maintain appropriate business records. Please do not send sensitive personal information through the contact form.
Comments
If comments are enabled and you submit one, the site may collect the information entered in the comment form, together with your IP address and browser information, to display the comment and help detect spam or abuse.
Affiliate-link and referral information
Some pages contain affiliate links. When you interact with an internal merchant link or an Advisor result, we may record information such as the selected product, source page, link position, time of the interaction, and pseudonymous visitor, visit, or quiz identifiers.
If you continue to a merchant or affiliate partner’s website, that organization may use its own cookies or tracking technologies according to its own privacy policy. We may later receive referral or conversion information from an affiliate program, but we generally do not receive your complete purchase or payment details.
For more information about these relationships, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies, local storage, session storage, and similar technologies for different purposes, including:
- operating WordPress and essential site functions,
- maintaining Advisor visitor, visit, and quiz continuity,
- measuring traffic and content performance,
- remembering certain interface preferences,
- protecting the site against spam, fraud, and malicious activity,
- measuring referrals and affiliate-link interactions.
We use Google Analytics to understand site traffic and reader interactions. Google Analytics may use first-party cookies such as _ga and related identifiers to distinguish visitors and sessions and to produce aggregated reports.
You can block or delete cookies and browser storage through your browser settings. Doing so may affect analytics measurement, Advisor continuity, saved preferences, or other site functions. Clearing local storage can reset the Advisor identifier stored in your browser, but it does not automatically delete information already received by our systems.
How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- provide and maintain the website and Advisor,
- generate and improve software recommendations,
- understand traffic, content engagement, and conversion paths,
- respond to messages and editorial requests,
- monitor affiliate-link performance,
- detect abuse, fraud, security incidents, and technical failures,
- comply with legal obligations and protect our rights.
We do not sell or rent personal information.
Service Providers and Other Disclosures
We may use service providers that support:
- website hosting, caching, backups, and performance,
- analytics and traffic measurement,
- form processing and email delivery,
- security, firewall, and spam prevention,
- cloud storage, workflow processing, and Advisor data operations,
- affiliate attribution and conversion reporting.
These providers may process information only as needed to perform their services, subject to their contracts, settings, and applicable laws.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with the law, respond to a lawful request, investigate fraud or security incidents, enforce our terms, or protect the rights and safety of MSR, our readers, or others.
Processing Outside Your Jurisdiction
Some service providers may process or store information outside Quebec or Canada. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to the laws and lawful-access requirements of that jurisdiction.

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operating the site, improving recommendations, responding to inquiries, maintaining security, resolving disputes, and meeting legal or accounting obligations.
Retention periods may vary by category and service. Contact messages may be kept while an inquiry remains relevant. Advisor records, analytics data, link events, and security logs may be retained according to our operational needs and the settings of the services involved. When information is no longer reasonably required, we may delete or anonymize it, subject to technical and legal limitations.
You may contact us to ask about the retention period applicable to a particular category of personal information.
Your Choices and Privacy Rights
Depending on the laws that apply to you, you may have the right to:
- request access to personal information we hold about you,

- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent,
- request deletion or anonymization where applicable,
- request a portable copy of certain information where applicable,
- ask questions about an automated Advisor recommendation,
- make a complaint about our privacy practices.
We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request. Some rights are subject to legal exceptions, technical limitations, and information we must retain for legitimate legal, security, or record-keeping purposes.
You are not required to use the Marketing Software Advisor. If you choose not to provide its requested information, we will not be able to generate a personalized recommendation, but you can still read the rest of the site.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. However, no website, network, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
External Websites and Embedded Content
Our site may link to or display content from other websites. Those services may collect information, use cookies, or track interactions according to their own privacy practices. This Privacy Policy does not govern third-party websites or services after you leave MSR.
Children’s Privacy
Marketing Software Review is intended for business and professional audiences and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can review the situation.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our services, technology, or legal obligations change. The revised version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Where appropriate, we may also provide an additional notice of a material change.
